Here is a bit of information about the President Coolidge on which Carl Franson worked as a bellboy and traveled to the Far East. In his memoir he wrote about these travels and included photos from that time.

The Far East

          The President Coolidge sailed from San Francisco, to Hawaii, to Yokohama and then
          south to Kobe

          It made its way through the inland sea and followed the coastline of China from Shanghai to Kowloon and it           continued under the Southern Cross to Manila
